FO: Short Row Hat (#5)
Just this minute I finished the Short Row Hat from Interweave webKnits (weee free patterns!). So what do I do? Put it on, turn on the South Park movie, and blog about it.
Pattern: Short Row Hat (PDF file) by Véronik Avery.
Yarn: Noro Kureyon #166, 1 ball plus a few yards from a second ball (stash-busting!!)
Needles: US #7 straights and #6 DPNs (they're the only DPNs I own)

Notes: I wanted to make this hat when I first saw it. I tried it a few times but either I didn't get the short rows or I wasn't paying close enough attention because I put it down after section A. I don't know if doing entrelac helped wrap my brain around it, but we'll say that's the case.

(I love that the neon green section is right in the front. hehe)
Before I did the finishing sections I stretched the hat around my head to see if it would fit, and it seemed pretty small, but I thought I'd try it anyway (it's relatively stretchy). When I went to do the three needle bind off I discovered, partway through of course, that my cast on row had notably fewer stitches than the final row. Since my headache was moving into my jaw I said screw it and fudged it. I also picked up 24 stitches for the crown instead of 32 (it seemed like 32 wouldn't work so I didn't try) and did a few rounds of K2tog until I had 6 stitches and pulled the yarn through those stitches and tied it off.

The hat ended up being a little tall (my gauge was correct), so there's a bit of space at the top and it looks a little bunchy, but I don't really mind that. If I make this hat again (which I'm pretty sure I will) I'd probably do fewer stitches in the garter stitch border.
I decided to skip the little I-cord on top of the hat since the crown bit is a totally different color than the rest of the top of the hat, and it would've looked like a blue nipple. As funny as that'd be I'm tired and cranky and not in the mood to knit nipples. Maybe some other time.

I freaking love this colorway. Maybe I'll buy more...
I want a cookie.
