Christmas knitting is finished!

So every year we switch which big holiday (Thanksgiving or Christmas) we spend with my family and which we spend with Mike's (the same goes for my brother and his wife--and we schedule it so Brandon and I are both with my parents at the same time). So this year we spent Thanksgiving with my family, and this past Saturday we had our family Christmas get-together. For some reason when Candace and I were figuring out which weekend was best for both of us, I said the 15th, and it took me an hour or two to realize that I had just greatly shortened my Christmas knitting time. Oops. Everything did get finished semi-in time for Christmas at Brandon's house.

Here's my brother's cat Rocco watching the birds.

Since Candace wanted something that went with her new coat (which has a really pretty purple lining and little bits of purple throughout the outside design) I made a new colorway and dyed up some bulky yarn.

Candace's purple scarf (#25)

Pattern: Chevron and Feathers Scarf from The Little Book of Scarves
Yarn: Storm Moon Knits Celestial Bulky (100% merino) in 'Purple Rain;' 2 skeins
Needles: US #11 (8mm)
Finished Length: 5.5"x74"

I finished this one first since I had to block it.

So I'm still in my pajamas there (since I spent the entire day knitting) but at least I put a bra on for the picture.

Dad's alpaca scarf (#26)

Pattern: I used a diagonal slip/twisted stitch pattern from one of the Barbara Walker Treasuries
Yarn: Cascade Baby Alpaca Chunky (100$ baby alpaca), #553 black; 2.5 skeins
Needles: US #10 (6mm)

The picture on the left is the front side, and the picture on the right is the back (which looks equally nice--so really you could wear it either way).

I finished this scarf around 11:30 on Friday night. With all the twisted stitches it took a little longer than I expected.

Mom's Diagonal Scarf (#27)

Pattern: See below.
Yarn: Storm Moon Knits Celestial Bulky (100% merino) in 'Mandragora;' 2 skeins
Needles: US #11 (8mm)

This was the last scarf I finished. I had planned on knitting it in the car on the way to my brother's house but I was really tired and just decided to wait till I got there, so this one was actually finished during our Christmas celebration (after we ate, and while we watched Dirty Jobs). But it's done!

For this scarf I cast on 17 stitches and followed this pattern:
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: Kfb, knit to last 2 stitches, k2tog
(repeat these two rows).

I also switched back and forth between two skeins to keep the colors from pooling strangely, so I actually have quite a bit left over, which I plan to use for a hat for me.

Here's mom and Candace with their scarves (I did take a picture of my dad wearing his scarf but it's hard to show off a black scarf).

And just for good measure, here's a picture of Cece.

OMG!!!! I was going to do the same darn thing for a scarf for my Dad for Christmas, but opted out because I thought that it would take too long. I was even going to use alpaca. Strange!

Your yarns look so gorgeous knit up into the scarves!
