Hats are awesome (2 FOs)

I haven't updated lately because I had a cold for the past week and a half, and I think it's finally gone (and thus, I'm no longer a snot machine). Despite feeling better, I'm really tired for no particular reason today (even though I took a ridiculously long nap), so I'm going to be writing this up quickly.

Solana Short Row Hat (#9)

Pattern: Short Row Hat by Véronik Avery (PDF file)
Yarn: Brooks Farm Solana (100% superwash wool) (*stashbusting*)
Needle: US #9 (5.5mm)
Modifications: As usual, I only did a 5 stitch brim instead of 10, and I increased the needle size. I probably could've done it on a US #8, because as it is it's a pretty loose hat, but I like it.

This was the beginning of my effort at using the really nice yarns in my stash. Usually they get a place of honor and just stay there, because projects are not worthy of this yarn. And I LOVE the Solana. It's super soft and the colors are just fantastic.

Even though it looks like my apartment is on fire, the hat color is actually pretty accurate.

Chakra Hat (#10)

Pattern: Chakra by Alysa Joaquin
Yarn:
-SWTC Karaoke (50% wool, 50% soysilk), color #300 Dipity; 1 skein
-Cascade 220 (100% wool), color #8555 black; 1 skein
Needle: US #7 (4.5mm)
Modifications: I added two rows of ribbing and one row of straight knitting to the beginning of this hat to make it a little longer (it's still a teeny bit shorter than I like, but I'm not taking it out). I had to restart this hat on a US #7, because I started on a US #6 (4mm) and it was like a tourniquet on my head. It's still a little tight, and I might try to block it so it's a little wider.

I also had to fudge the color sections a tiny bit--I cut out a few yards of green so they'd only be in the leaf section.

This really was the perfect yarn for this hat. And I love the purple flower on the crown.
