FO: Red Winkie (#35)

Red Winkie sounds kind of dirty. Or unfortunate.

Pattern: Sweet Winkie by Woolly Wormhead from the E-book Going Straight (both are Ravelry links)
Yarn: South West Trading Company Yin (60% wool, 20% silk, 20% bamboo), #815 "Vitality", 1 skein
Needles: US #5 (3.75mm)
Size: 22"
Modifications: I don't think I made any modifications. This was definitely an at-home project. It required much more concentration than Abalone, so I couldn't take it to work.

I didn't do my usual modification, which is doing a three needle bind off instead of kitchener stitch. Mike wasn't allowed to talk to me the whole time I was sewing this thing up, because if I screwed it up, there would be a bit of wrath. It doesn't look great, but it's not particularly noticeable either.

Blocking: This hat really requires blocking to make it look and sit right. I decided to wet block it. I let it soak for a while as I created this bizarre blocking form for it.

I had a piece of cardboard sitting around that amazingly the cat had not destroyed, so I cut out a large triangle. I stretched out the hat lengthwise while it was still dry and measured from the edge of the brim to the pointy bit.

I covered the cardboard in a plastic bag, got as much water out of the hat by rolling it in a towel, and then I pinned it to the cardboard. Since I was trying to get the edge nubbins to lay flat, I had to push the pins all the way through on both sides. It ended up looking like some weird torture device. I only stabbed myself twice.

That is such a cool hat! Such an interesting shape too.
You've got quite a collection over there!
