FOs! And new WIPs!

So lately I've been too busy to sit at the computer and post about what I've been doing. Plus, with what's been going on at the shop as well as job searching, I've been mentally, well, not too good.

So during the day I'm either at work or elbow deep in very colorful wet wool. In the evenings I'm usually either tying undyed skeins (so they don't get tangled in the dye process), or I'm cutting the extra ties off/twisting hanks/tagging hanks. After I finish that each evening I get a little time to knit, and I usually start a new project. I did manage to finish a couple though--both of which were started within the last week or two. The patterns don't involve too much thinking but the results are fantastic.

Boteh Scarf (#51)

Purple Rain

Pattern: Boteh Scarf (Rav link) by Kathy Merrick, from Interweave Crochet, Spring 2007
Yarn: Storm Moon Knits Twilight Sock, in "Purple Rain," 1 skein
Hook size: F (3.75mm)
Modifications: I suppose screwing up the direction of one of the triangles counts as a "design modification."

This was a much faster, easier project than I anticipated. I only did as many repeats as the pattern called for, so I have some leftover yarn which will probably become wrist warmers. I'll have to weigh it and see how much is left. I love how crochet shows off the color changes in hand dyed yarn.

Beaufort Hat (#52)

beaufort2

Pattern: Beaufort Hat (warning! PDF file) by Angela Hahn (Ravelry page)
Yarn: Cascade Pima Tencel, in #7478, 1 skein
Needles: US #7 (4.5mm)
Modifications: none
Size: large adult

This is for someone who's getting ready to start chemo. Pima Tencel is such a fantastic yarn. I hope she likes it.

And, like I said, I've started some new projects. This is a neckwarmer that will match my Chakra hat. I'm pretty sure I've been writing it down as I go, so I should be able to post a pattern when I finish. I reeeeeally like this one.

And here's yet another half-Clapotis. The yarn is one of my new yarns which I call Nimbus (60% domestic alpaca, 40% domestic merino), and the colorway is "Mandragora." I want to get this done before Stitches East so I can wear it at my table.

Earlier this week Mike and I were watching Unwrapped on the Food Network, and they kept showing the damn Werther's commercials, so I had to go buy some today (both the original kind and the new chocolate/caramel swirl). I'm pretty sure that these things will be what kills my teeth. But they're sooooo goooood. I have yet to get the makings for root beer floats, which is one of the things they were talking about on Unwrapped (along with oreos [well, the Paul Newman version], spinach and artichoke dip, Andes chocolate mints, and cookies and cream ice cream--it's like they made the episode just for me!!).

I better get to sleep so I can dye a ton tomorrow. I haven't gotten to the point yet where the smell of wet wool makes me want to vomit. That's a good sign, right?

I want to make that scarf so bad! I keep coming back to it and get ready to start, then am like, "Oh yeah, it's crochet". I really must develop some skills.

Is your striped neckwarmer a two-color brioche rib?
